Unforgettable Adventures in Dominica: Why a Viator small group tour was the best decision

December 2025 - First trip to Dominica

  • The previous day, we booked a jeep and explored St. Maarten on our own, which was a fabulous way to experience all that the island had to offer. However, the winding, narrow, and steep mountainous roads of Dominica called for a local, experienced driver.

  • I rarely book excursions through cruise lines. I prefer smaller, private tours over the typical motorcoach tours that are commonly offered. Additionally, cruise lines excel at cruising but are not necessarily experts in local touring. Tours offered through cruise lines also tend to be more expensive.

  • I chose this specific Viator small group tour in Dominica based on the great reviews, and our experience was absolutely unforgettable.

    • We met the guide about a block away from the cruise port.

    • It was a small group - 10 in our group.

    • We explored so much of the island, stopping numerous times for short hikes, swims, photos, and snacks.

    • The guide was super knowledgeable and did a beautiful job of sharing his love for his country.

    • Everyone on the tour was amazed at how well the driver navigated the roads. All of us were so happy that we didn't have to drive them ourselves!

    • The cost was about $75.00 per person. (I often have access to special travel agent discount codes to make it even more reasonable.)
